چکیده
Abstract Background Cardiovascular fitness has been associated with both executive function and academic achievement in multiple cohort studies including children adolescents. However, research is scarce among from low- middle-income countries. Hence, this paper focuses on South African primary schoolchildren living marginalized areas examines if inhibitory control can be explained by children’s age, socioeconomic status, soil-transmitted helminth infections, food insecurity, stunting, grip strength, cardiorespiratory fitness. Methods The sample of cross-sectional study consisted 1277 (48% girls, mean age: 8.3 years). Data were assessed via questionnaires, stool samples, anthropometric measurements, 20 m shuttle run test, strength Flanker task, school grades. analysed mixed linear regression models random intercepts for classes, separately boys girls. Results Higher status was most closely ( p < 0.05), whereas higher levels not being stunted variance girls 0.05). age turned out to better performance the task 0.01). Associations between selective attention and soil-transmitted helminth infections, socioeconomic status, and physical fitness in disadvantaged children in Port Elizabeth, South Africa: An observational study
BACKGROUND Socioeconomically deprived children are at increased risk of ill-health associated with sedentary behavior, malnutrition, and helminth infection. The resulting reduced physical fitness, growth retardation, and impaired cognitive abilities may impede children's capacity to pay attention. The present study examines how socioeconomic status (SES), parasitic worm infections, stunting, fo...

متن کاملGlobal epidemiology, ecology and control of soil-transmitted helminth infections.
Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections are among the most prevalent of chronic human infections worldwide. Based on the demonstrable impact on child development, there is a global commitment to finance and implement control strategies with a focus on school-based chemotherapy programmes. The major obstacle to the implementation of cost-effective control is the lack of accurate descriptions ...
